Carrying It Past September: Seven Days of Masks, Shame, and Need

From September 30 to October 6, I posted one short note a day on X about masks, shame, and need, and about reaching out when things get heavy. Posts on X slide down the feed fast and get hard to find. This page collects all seven in one place so they have a permanent home.

Each post is here word for word, in the order it went out, with a link to the original on X. Read them in order, or just find the one you need today. New here? Start Here.

Day 1

"I'm fine" can be a mask. Under it there's often a need that learned to hide.

You don't have to drop the whole mask today. Say one true sentence to one safe person.

If it's heavy right now, call or text 988 (US).

Day 2

The dark night passes. The voice saying nothing will ever change is one part of you, not all of you.

Try saying it as "a part of me feels..." instead of "I am..."

If it's heavy right now, call or text 988 (US).

Day 3

Three clocks: tonight, this week, and the story about your whole life. Only the first one needs you right now.

Ask what the next hour is for. Then feel your feet on the floor.

If it's heavy right now, call or text 988 (US).

Day 4

The part of you that shame calls the problem is usually the part that's hurting most.

Write two sentences as that part. Read them back the way you'd read a friend's.

If it's heavy right now, call or text 988 (US).

Day 5

Need is not weakness. The neediness we judge in other people is often our own, buried.

Notice who you call "too needy." That judgment may be pointing at what you need.

If it's heavy right now, call or text 988 (US).

Day 6

The old way of living can change, and you stay. A role you've carried for years can be put down, and you're still here after.

Name one role you're tired of carrying.

If it's heavy right now, call or text 988 (US).

Day 7

Integration isn't done alone. It's reaching out, and letting someone reach you back.

Text one person you trust today. Or let 988 be that person tonight.

If it's heavy right now, call or text 988 (US).
